These per-child figures are Pennsylvania’s rule, not a national one.
55 Pa. Code §3270.62 sets outdoor or indoor play space at 65 square feet per child,
40 square feet per infant and 50 square feet per young or older toddler. Subsection (d)
bars that space from being used at the same time for another business, commercial, social
or unrelated purpose — so a multipurpose room counted twice on paper will not count
twice at inspection. Every state writes its own figure. Check the rule your licensor
enforces before committing to a layout.
What the calculator does not decide
- Fall zones. Required use zones around equipment come out of the governing standard for the age band, not out of floor area. They are set on the layout drawing, not here.
- Clear ceiling height. Height governs deck count and slide runs. We size that against your drawing rather than a formula, which is why the field above is collected but not converted into a number.
- Which standard applies. Use the age band and standards selector for that.
Send the room and get a layout back. A costed quotation and a first layout come back within 24 hours from a DWG or PDF floor plan — or from length, width and clear ceiling height if you have no drawings.
